Ethics of International Intervention, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 456

Essay

In the case of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, there are discussions and debates on international powerful countries’ intervention to stop the killings of innocent people. Some ethics govern the principle or act of intervention during such clashes.

The sovereignty of a state is mainly limited by “international law,” which states that every state must abide by “international law and conventions”. Another thing is that the sovereign cannot control the natural will of people and the world. According to the “international laws”, the “principle of non-intervention” defines the limitation of sovereign states from intervening in other states or each other’s internal affairs.

Humanitarian intervention has now advanced to different forms of assistance, for instance, harboring refugees, military intervention or aid, and monetary aid. For example, The United States has pledged over 30 million dollars in Ukraine human aid, and plans for relief supply are underway (Christiansen 2022).

A just intervention is characterized by intervening where there is a mass violation of human rights since mass killings are not moral, and the international law that governs the intervention process is under morality. An unjust intervention is self-benefiting or supporting the immoral side of war.

The sanctioning of a nation’s economy and the killings of innocent people. There are also obligations against the “territorial integrity and sovereignty” of states (Gvosdev 2022).

Yes, it is a must. Through the “international laws”, international bodies can order intervention after evaluating the situation from every perspective, like reasons behind its orchestration and how bad it is or how threatening it is to human rights.

In case of an enormous human rights violation and sanctioning of the economy, there will be a need for immediate intervention with or without permission. The act is morally acceptable since no one supports actions that violate human rights.

Yes, they do. Being democratic means giving every citizen equal opportunity and freedom or right in every aspect of moral life, which equals respect for human rights.
