Essay

Discuss the ethics behind office supplies “leaving” the office?

Once something has been bought utilizing the monetary funding of the organization, each item (no matter how small) is considered property of the organization. Employees are generally supposed to respect the properties owned by the organization. Noticeably, the fact that office supplies are small, most often than not, employees sees such elements as rather available for taking. It is however clear that when an employee takes something that belongs to the organization, that is automatically labeled as steeling and is ethically wrong.

In your opinion, do you feel that the individuals in the video behaved ethically? Why or why not?

No. The individuals in the video were considering office supplies as small items; not supposedly considered fully harmful if these items are taken off out from the concerns of the organization. Compared to other costs, office supplies take lesser pressure. Nevertheless, it could not be denied that the impact it has on the expenses rate of the business does create a definite source of pressure on the budget of the organization in the long run.

Create a statement regarding employee use of office supplies and equipment

Office supplies and equipment are company properties and should be respected accordingly; they should be in no way set aside or considered lesser important or less expensive than other properties of the organization thus treating it harmless to take these items out from the office without permission.

Can you think of any reason (s) from a social or business perspective, where a generous office supplies policy might be “ethical?”

To control the situation where employees are tempted to keep some office supplies for themselves, organizations could create a policy that would allow employees to keep a particular amount of office supplies. Perhaps giving them a personal office supply limit would do. This means that if they are not able to use their personal supply in the office, they are welcome to take home whatever is left for them. This shall help decrease loss cost when buying or replenishing office supplies at work.
