Evaluating Educational Research, Reaction Paper Example

In chapter six, Evaluating Educational Research, the author presents information about the types of professional research journals. He identifies some of the most popular selections as essays, research reviews, and research studies.  An essay is an instructional guide associated with the teaching profession.  The content of an essay may include information on ‘how to teach a concept’ or discussion of a viewpoint (Creswell, 2009). Next, research reviews are publications in which the journalist examines the content of a particular topic. Reviews can be beneficial to the reader as they provide a summary of specific research results (Creswell, 2009).  A research study is presented in a detailed format. It includes specific headings such as an abstract, introduction, hypothesis, and discussion.  Lastly, presented in this chapter are the principles of evaluation. This is a guide that readers can use to evaluate the content of all research studies (Creswell, 2009).

The information that I learned in this chapter will be useful as I pursue my education. Before this class, I did not fathom that there were different types of research material. Now, I will be able to research topics more effectively. Many of the methods, approaches, and techniques that are used for teaching are based on the results of research. Thus, my new knowledge has increased my awareness of the importance of research in education. The ability to perform reliable research will enhance the education of all students. In addition, it will encourage my success as an educator.
