Evaluation of Meeting, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 336

Essay

In basic terms, I felt that the meeting was productive, if not especially noteworthy. There was the usual discussion regarding issues with equipment, and the communicating of this information is, of course, absolutely necessary. Then, and also according to form, staffing matters went around the table, with training and scheduling concerns and suggestions addressed. The meeting concluded with the sharing of hospital news, most of which was already known to those present.

I must confess that, as indicated, I was not particularly impressed by the meeting, as I typically am not. I fully acknowledge the need for these meetings; the hospital cannot succeed if we do not completely stay “on the same page”. At the same time, I do believe that a little more in the way of structure would improve meetings. There is a temptation among those present, including myself, to stray from the subjects at hand, and a specific and timed agenda would help to reduce this. Then, I believe that a more structured meeting would take less time away from other responsibilities, even as the constraints of the meeting would add to the impact of whatever is discussed.

My own role in the meeting was, as it usually is, mostly passive. As a respiratory therapist, I find my chief interest lies in equipment issues, and I am most attentive to these topics. However, if I am criticizing the meetings at all, I am obligated to be a part of making them better. I think that I should approach them more as I would like them to be conducted, which would aid in the process of making them more efficient and beneficial for all concerned. This translates to a proactive preparation on my part, and I intend to come to these meeting with a stronger focus and a greater willingness to share information, and bring up issues, I feel should be addressed. My hope is that the rest of the staff will want to demonstrate this ambition, and make the very most of our meeting time.
