Establishing an understanding of clinical scholarship requires an ability to adapt to change in the context of patient care and to recognize the value of integrating different methods to improve outcomes for patients that will have a lasting impact on their quality of life (Tymkow, 2014; AACN, 2006). Clinical scholarship must also be integrated into the modern practice setting through the development of new methods that are designed to accommodate areas such as technology-based integration, research collaborative efforts, and quality improvement, among others (Tymkow, 2014). As a result, it is also necessary to develop a strategy to apply theories to support evidence-based initiatives in the context of care and treatment, such as the Health Belief Model and the Transtheoretical Model of Client Health Behavior (Magnan, 2016). These models represent an opportunity to examine clinical approaches to common problems and to recognize the value of improving patient care quality to achieve effective results in patient care settings (Brown & Crabtree, 2013).

It is imperative that as a facilitator of change, there must be a greater emphasis on the practice environment and the overall needs that continue to evolve in this arena, given the challenges of achieving high quality patient care in modern society. Adapting this process to the chronic care model is also essential, as it demonstrates a greater understanding of the key elements of care and treatment that influence different patient populations, such as those with HIV/AIDS. There must be a greater emphasis on the development of new methods to support this group of patients with the aim to prolong their lives through comprehensive and coordinated care to support effective change and improvements in how these patients are treated. This also reflects a need to further examine the development of new protocols to improve the health and wellbeing of patients who face traumatic events that may impact their quality of life in significant ways.
