Factors Associated With Nurses’ Informatics Competency, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 352

Essay

From a healthcare perspective, nursing informatics is of critical importance in shaping the environment and in supporting a dynamic whereby patients are able to receive adequate treatment that is based upon consistency and successful outcomes. This process is essential to the discovery of new ideas and frameworks to accommodate patients that will have a positive impact on long-term success and achievement at the advanced practice level. There is a critical need to continue to expand knowledge and resources to meet the needs of patients and to be proactive in working towards solutions that will have a positive and lasting impact on healthcare outcomes. Therefore, nursing informatics must be integrated into all areas of the advanced practice environment as a means of influencing outcomes and supporting the dynamics of successful patient care and treatment (Swenty & Titzer, 2014).

Nursing informatics creates a much higher level of efficiency for advanced practice nurses and supports an environment whereby technology and information will be used to a nurses’ advantage in developing advanced solutions to specific problems (Hwang & Park, 2011). This process requires an examination of the different tools and resources that are available to meet patient care needs and to recognize the value of developing a dynamic whereby patient care outcomes will be supported by a dependence on technology and resources to improve practice outcomes (Hwang & Park, 2011). From this perspective, advanced practice nurses will have the tools in place to improve upon existing knowledge and to communicate effectively using technology as a primary resource. These concepts must demonstrate a high degree of relevancy and have a long-term impact on patient care in order to achieve success and to demonstrate the significance of advanced practice nursing in treating patients. With informatics in place, it is possible for nurses to be successful in working collaboratively with their patients towards a sound treatment strategy that will improve outcomes.
