Among the many importance that was promised by a well-constructed Union, there is no one that deserves to be more perfectly developed than its ability to destroy and control the violence of faction. The allies of popular nations do not find themselves so much alarmed for their behavior and fate, as when they contemplate their tendency to this dangerous vice.

Madison first shows that there are more than one ways to limit the destructions caused by faction: either regulate its effects or remove the causes of faction. Madison also explains the two ways to remove faction: the first method is destruction of liberty, which could work successfully because liberty is to faction what gets burned in the air. However, it is quite impossible to do because liberty is necessary for political environment.

Nonetheless, Americans fought and protected it during the American Revolution. Another option is the creation of a society homogeneous in interests and options which is very impracticable. The varied ways of the people ability is what makes them benefit more or less, and unbalanced property is a right that the nation must secure. Madison specifically stresses that economic stratification avoids people from sharing the same preferences. Madison concludes that the damage that emerged as a result of faction may be limited only by regulating its effect.

Though Madison explained a lot about big and diverse republic, the authors of the Federalist Pares recognized the importance of a balance. They needed a republic bigger enough to avoid faction but with sufficient commonality to keep cohesion among the states.

In conclusion, Madison explains a limitation of his conclusion that big constituencies will give better representatives. He also addresses the fact that if constituencies are too expended, the representatives would be too small familiar with all their local circumstances and little interests.
