Pages: 2

Words: 486

Assessment

This assessment will explore the first three principles of NASW Code of Ethics. The principals that will be reviewed are: service, social justice and dignity/ worth of the person.  The purpose of public welfare will be explored. These principles will be reviewed from the perspective of Hansan (2011) and NASW (2014).

Ethical Principals

Service

The first ethical goal of the social worker is to empower people who are needy and to attempt to for the injustice caused by social problems. The social worker strives to place the needs that others have the service above all other motivations. The social workers rely on their experiential knowledge, education, abilities and resources in order to empower people who are in need and to try to apply social justice. Social workers are encouraged to donate to charity (NASW 1).

Social Justice

The second ethical goal of the social worker is to encourage social change. Empathy with the susceptible and the oppressed is encouraged. The social worker strives to be an agent of change. The social changes are directed toward improving the living conditions of the impoverished, the unemployed, those who are recipients of discrimination and other categories of social injustice. These projects that are initiated by the social worker in order rot create social change have the goals of promoting empathy and to increase the knowledge with regards to cultural diversity and cultural values. A component of the social justice that the special workers aim to satisfy is the provision of required information with regards to the resources and services that are available to the impoverished, unemployed and oppressed (NASW 1).

Dignity- Worth of the Person

The third ethical goal of the social worker is to generate respects and dignity for all of their clients. The social worker´s goal is to engage with each individual in a manner that is respectful and caring. The social worker may be cognizant of cultural and individual distinctions. The social worker is responsible for the encouraging of the clients ‘self-efficacy and self- determination (NASW 1).

Public Welfare

The purpose of public welfare is to ensure that all individuals have access to the information that can empower them with self-efficacy and self-determination. The cash assistance and services associated with public welfare are available to all legal residents of the United Stateswho can pass the means test.  The means test is a method of confirming that the recipient is ¨truly poor¨ (Hansan 1). It is the social worker´s responsibility in accordance with the NASW to direct those in need toward the appropriate information resources.  Public welfare has the purpose of assisting individuals and families temporarily until they can help themselves (Hansan 1).
