Essay

Websites managing content and user information are responsible for protecting customers’ data and rights. The below paper is designed to review one of popular the content based sites: flickr.com and e-commerce sites’ cookie policies.

Flickr.com. The online photo sharing and management website is popular not only among people who are professional photographers, but also users looking to manage their content and create portfolios. The usability of the site is extremely customer-friendly and social media integration is fully implemented. There are several customizable settings regarding users’ privacy, location, access to other accounts and rights. Adding attribution is simple, while it is also suitable to be used for educational purposes. RSS integration is an effective tool to help users keep updated about new images and sets. Communities can be formed, and the site is easy to navigate in order to develop online collaboration. The image-based design of the site and the discussion settings are easy to use, while users can organize their own page and content.

Cookies of websites. While users are becoming extremely concerned about their privacy and new cases of intrusion are revealed by the media, cookies do have a purpose. They were originally created to enhance user experience. (Tanner, 2013) states that many internet users rely on cookies: it is almost impossible to remember all login information. With Google’s account integration and Chrome settings, for example all bookmarks and browser preferences can be transferred to another laptop or computer. However, the use of cookies is usually communicated by websites and can be declined by users. They can be useful, however, internet users need to be vigilant not to share personal information that can be compromised. E-businesses can, for example customize control panels and shopping facilities for each customer, based on history and preferences.
