Formative and a Summative Evaluation, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 304

Essay

Differentiate between a formative and a summative evaluation. Describe how you would use both evaluation processes when educating your patient from the case study.

Summative evaluation is focused more on what the patients learn about their situation after diagnostic information has been served to them. On the other hand, formative evaluation entails the understanding that a patient has before any informed diagnosis has already been made. In the case considered,  the formative evaluation could be used to determine what the patient already knows about his situation including the hunches he might have in relation to the situation. After which, a formative evaluation could be applied so as to provide him and his wife a better sense of what happening; helping them understand what COPD is and what could be done in order to  support such system of health development.  Practically, these evaluative procedures could help increase the understanding of the patient and his wife regarding the situation, thus invoking a better sense of definition on how they are to face the said medical challenge.

Reflecting on a recent patient education experience, how did you evaluate your client’s understanding and completion of the learning objectives?

Once diagnostic information has been passed on to the patient in a way that they would fully understand it and its value for their own health-safety, it is expected that they would be able to make their own decisions especially in adjusting their lifestyle, their beliefs and other elements that once insisted on how wrongly they perceive the ailment they are battling with. It is assumed that from the point of being educated with the right thing to do, it would be much clearer for the patient to handle the ailment more willfully and more directly especially in determining the right decisions that will make such option of recovery more workable to embrace.
