Game Plan for Directive Learning, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 390

Essay

Self-directed learning is more effective in education than interactive tools, as it is completely suited for the pace of the student, and their personal preferences. Using a GAME (Goals, Action, Monitor, Evaluate & Extend) framework for skills development, the author of the current review would like to create a GAME Plan for Role Play software that is designed to enhance students’  practical problem solving skills. Cauble and Dinkel (8)  state that while setting up interactive multimedia instructional design for social workers can be expensive, long term results and cost savings prove them to be more effective than simple classroom induction.

Goals

The software will be developed for students who are taking part in courses to become social workers. Empathic skills can be developed using the tool, and interactive advanced communication and research skills can also be improved. Indeed, the best way of understanding people one deals with is to take on their personality and simulate their situation, feelings.

Action

In order to gather all the information needed for setting up the interactive simulation program and create realistic characters/scenarios that individual students can take on, it is important to research the real work situations that occur in the life of a social worker. Reading case studies and rewriting them for the computer program is the fist step to be completed. It is also likely that practicing social workers would be involved in developing the directive learning program.

Monitor

It is important to monitor the performance of individuals, and peer reviews submitted on the system will be used as a form of evaluation. Supervisors will be appointed for working groups, and they will answer both technical and theoretical questions that might occur during using the program.

Evaluate & Extend

It is also important to ask users to provide feedback and self-evaluation on their performance and highlight the areas they developed the most during using the program. The knowledge and practical skills gained can also be incorporated in academic assignments and coursework. Cennamo, Ross, and Rogers (33) also note that the program should support students’ ability to review strategies, while maintaining flexibility to better suit the program for the needs of the group.
