Essay

This is an early 17th century oil canvas painting by the Giovanni Francesco Guerriri (1589 to 1655, an Italian). This was year 1626. Guerrieri lived in Rome shortly where he did work for Marco Antonio Borghese. The beheading of Holofernes by the Judith has been given in details in the Old Testament in book of Judith. It has also been a subject to numerous paintings and the sculpture (Bible art Gallery).

Judith With the Head of Holofernes

Judith was a beautiful and wealth young widow who was living in a hilltop town that was called Bethuliah. Judith undertook a very daring and a sexually ambiguous mission during the siege of their town so as to save her people from the annihilation. With her maid at her side, she went to the camp where Holofernes an Assyrian commander in chief of their enemies was living. Although he had a fearsome reputation, he was charmed by Judith. She then attempted him to get drunk and she took his sword from the bedpost where it was hanging and immediately she hacked his headed off as he was laying in a stupor (Bible art Gallery).

With the head wrapped in bed curtain, she returned to her own people in the Bethuliah. Holofernes head that was hung in towns ramparts caused panic and fear among Assyrians who fled away.

The European art history shows or informs us of the various heroes that have been famous or recognized in the Europe in various ways like wars, discovery, science or even arts. The Chinese art history shows more or tells about the Chinese culture and the art. They mainly deal with design and architecture by the Chinese society. They show what the society generally uses as compared to European arts which show the individual heroes or persons (Mary 12).

The religion has been portrayed very much in the art history. The ancient art concentrated more on the religion in their work. The images shown above are more of religion that shows clearly that the art history has taken a higher place in the art history (Ernest 22).

Aristocracy is a form of the government where just few of the prominent citizens rule the majority. It was mainly used in Ancient Greece. The art displays those as greedy people who are there to suppress the poor and those who are not able to sustain themselves in society.

Kasper (Jasper) van den Hoecke was a Flemish who was born in 1595 and died in 1648. He was a painter and an artist with very big gallery.

Holofernes Banquet

Holofernes held a banquet for his slaves only. He invited Judith to eat and drink with them. Holofernes was very much pleased with her that he also drank great quantities of wine than he had ever drunk in his life.
