Essay

Distracted driving is the root cause for many deaths every year. The reason as to why these certain aspects of driving have not been stopped is due to the fact that individuals do not understand that danger that distracted driving entails until it is too late. On that note, there is really only one way to fix this problem: awareness through advertisements. Advertisements throughout a city have the potential to play a key role in making individuals think otherwise when they get behind the wheel. Despite the fact that distracted driving can entail drinking under the influence, talking on the phone while driving, driving while drive, and many other kinds of factors, this advertisement image (attached below) should be used throughout a major metropolitan city so that individuals understand what a big problem distracted driving can and is.

Distracted driving is a problem that not even the law can fix. It has come to the extent that even if individuals get caught talking on the phone once or twice by a police man, they will continue to do it in the period of a month or so, once they have forgotten the incident that occurred. The problem with that is that individuals must coherently understand that distracted driving is a huge societal problem. In order to ensure that these individuals stop their destructive actions towards society, certain kinds of measures should be taken. I recommend posting my advertisement around the city so that people realize that distracted driving can lead to the death of other individuals. Through the raising of awareness via this advertisement, individuals would identify its meaning as something that society should deal with promptly.

Imagine walking across a street. You are listening to your music with earphones on when you suddenly see a car racing towards you. You instinctively think about jumping out of the way, but your body is paralyzed. You try to move, but it appears that your brain is not sending the required signals to your body in order to prompt it to move. The car is feet away now, and as you look into the drivers eyes, you notice that he is looking away, starting at object in his hand. You wake up hours later, on a hospital bed. On your hospital patient chart you can clearly read the words Hit by a texting driver. You look at your legs and they are completely shattered. Chances are you will never be able to walk again. Days pass and you figure out that the driver that hit you is going to be in prison for the length of five years.

The scenario discussed above is what individuals go through every single day. The reasons that my given advertisement should be placed in major metropolitan cities across the nation is to ensure that these kinds of incidents no longer take place in society. The only way that these kind of things can be stopped is by us, the people. We must decide to take action before moth deaths are caused by such a simple subject. We are already aware of the solution to put a stop to distracted driving. Of course, this sounds much simpler than it really is, but if we are all willing to put our efforts together, then it goes without saying that distracted driving can and will be stopped.

The kind of effect that my advertisement can have on certain kinds of individuals is profound. The advertisement portrayed depicts a man on his phone looking at a map that his wife is holding. Clearly, the man is not paying heed to the road. Little does he know that there is a child, not too many years older than the baby in his car, that is about to get hit by the ongoing car. By looking at this image, individuals would most certainly understand the gravity of the situation. They would come to embrace the actuality that distracted driving is not something that should be played with, for it endangers human lives. Individuals would come to realize that they are not as good multi-taskers as they think they are, or else these kind of incidents would never happen.

The best recommendation that can be given to any driver who is prone to distracted driving is to turn off his or her phone. If this takes too much work, then putting his or her phone on silent should do the trick. If even this takes too much effort on ones part, then he or she should consider the consequences and aftermath that could result from an accident. See, these individuals must come to the realization that if they were to cause an accident, authorities would not be willing to listen to their excuse as to why they had to look at their phone at the point of the accident. All the authorities would listen to is the fact that these individuals just injured or even killed an innocent pedestrian. Because of the manner in which these laws are so harsh, especially in some states, individuals should be much more careful with the decisions that they take when behind the wheel.

Advertising my image is only of the most popular ways that distracted driving can be ended once and for all. If you should choose to not embrace my advertisement, for whatever reason, I hope it does not have grave consequences. For most individuals, the problem with distracted driving is lack of both better sense and knowledge. However, if we choose to educate these individuals on the kinds of effects that distracted driving can cause in the long run, I am more than positive that the majority, if not all, of individuals who currently partake in cell phone usage and driving or drinking and driving will put a stop to their actions, at least for the time being. As discussed before, however, it would only be a matter of time before these individuals would forget the importance of not embracing such distractions while driving, so again, it would be up to us to display these advertisements once again. All in all, the raising of awareness through advertisements will prove to be the most effective manner in which this problem can and should be dealt with.

The image below depicts the aforementioned advertisement I recommend option for. This advertisement appeals to the audience by the manner in which it portrays a child about to be hit. The reason this is emotionally appealing to such an audience is because since most drivers are adults, they understand the gravity of what could happen if a child were to be hit. The advertisement is a great solution to the problem because it serves as a solution before the problem even happens. When individuals see this advertisement, they will come to understand of the potential danger that could result from distracted driving.
