Health Information System Implementation: A Qualitative Meta-Analysis, Research Paper Example

Research Paper

The assessment of the systems in health care information is no different from assessment of the information system in alternative types of firms. There are critical elements worth consideration during assessment of a system. The most important of these elements involve user satisfaction. The significance of this element is attributed to its accomplishment of a elemental obligation as a source of vital statistics relating to the contribution of health care information system based on the user’s point of view. Any organization offering health care services is obligated to uphold a high echelon of satisfaction among the users of the system. Another significant contribution of user satisfaction as critical element involves evaluation of the impacts arising from systems of healthcare information on the patients’ health status (Rahimi, Vimarlund & Timpka, 2009).

Individual impact is an equally important element in appraisal of a health information system. The contribution of this element engrosses the appraisal of the impact associated with a system of health information on the process of decision making with particular reference to therapeutic as well as diagnosis decisions. For a health information system to be seen as being effective, it must enhance the ability of making informed choices concerning pertinent diagnosis as well as treatment which have vital consequences on the ultimate outcomes achieved in the health of the patient (Rahimi, Vimarlund & Timpka, 2009).

Organization outcome is also a critical element of system assessment. Appraisal of the value attributed to health outcomes ascertains resources utilization in an economic manner leading to delivery of services of health care while exploiting the full potential of the organization (Abdelhak, Grostick  & Hanken, 2012). In appraising the outcome, cost-utility, cost-effectiveness as well as cost-benefit analysis are the critical utility measures in this regard.
