Health Information Technology and the Patient Experience, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 290

Essay

As a patient, the article “Hillary Clinton: Technology provides healthcare reform with necessary evidence” is a reminder of the many benefits that healthcare reform could bring to me and others like me. One of the most significant factors that raises my support for this act is that individuals under the age of 26 will be able to remain on their parents’ healthcare. This is essential for my personal health, the health of my colleagues, and the health of my future children. As a student, my primary concern is that I am unable to commit to a full-time job because this would interfere with my studies. While I am fortunate enough to be insured, many of my colleagues have complained that they were unable to see a doctor for several years because they were removed from their parents insurance at age 21. I believe that healthcare reform will be beneficial to this particular age group, because it will allow them to receive preventative care that previously eluded them. Furthermore, if they become drastically ill, they will no longer have to worry about how they will pay for treatments.

A second aspect of healthcare reform that appeals to me as a patient is the fact that when I enter the workforce and am no longer eligible to be insured under my parents, I will not have to seek out jobs purely based on the benefits they offer. Rather, I can rest assured that there will always be a healthcare option available for me, regardless of whether it’s obtained through work or through the government. This will enable me to do what I love and help others by working in the healthcare field without having to worry about my own health throughout the process.
