HIT Profession, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 464

Essay

Introduction

The continuous change in the health information technology requires essential skills knowledge as well as abilities. This is in order to meet both the current and the future demands in the field. This is because the healthcare industry is rapidly transforming to an electronic recording system as well as the collection of the health information. This means that the newcomers must be well equipped with the necessary knowledge to fit in the field (Henningfeld 2009). There are five basic skills that the entrants of the healthcare system must possess.

Communication

This is one of the most pertinent skills that HIT students must possess before joining the healthcare system. The professionals are expected to be proficient in their communications at several mediums and different levels of the healthcare system. Besides, they are expected to communicate more often with the IT specialists, patients, administrators, and the providers. In this case, the HIT curriculum should involve more of the writing assignments to help students improve their communication skills (Burke & Friedman 2011).

Ability to use information technologies

The HIT professionals should be fluent and efficient in using the health information technologies. This is as they continue to set the levels for EHRs as well as other emerging technologies. This is necessary in order to create an interconnected healthcare system. Moreover, it is necessary in order to encourage innovation in the healthcare system (Kingsnorth & Bowley 2011).

Knowledge and ability to work online

Technology has become prevalent especially in the healthcare delivery system. As a result, the professionals should have the knowledge and ability to work online. This is because this will be necessary during the analyses of the healthcare information on the computers as well as find relevant healthcare information on the internet (Cullen 2006). In order to meet the current and the future demands, the HIT programs should incorporate software tools, which reflect the healthcare system.

One of the most crucial professional organizations in the health care field is the American society of anesthesia technologists and technicians. This is because its mission is to establish an entity for the field of anesthesia technology, which will positively affect healthcare health standards. This is by increasing the standards of patient care and by providing a safe anesthetic environment. Another crucial organization is The American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants. This is because it is dedicated at advancing the ethics of the anesthesiologist assistants’ profession. This is through advocacy, team building as well as education.
