How to Build Self Confidence, Annotated Bibliography Example

Pages: 1

Annotated Bibliography

The articles selected for analysis indicate how to promote self-confidence among nursing students (Lundberg, 2008). While it is important to build skills and decision making strategies as well, building self-confidence allows the nursing student to take actions that he or she feels that are always correct, which improves efficacy in practice. One way to ensure that students are confident is to allow them to practice using simulations (Reodica, 2013). Ultimately, student self-confidence is promoted when they are presented with clear learning objectives and are provided with appropriately challenging problems to solve (Smith &Roehrs, 2009). It is therefore important for teachers to shape positive experiences (Kube, 2010). Overall, it appears that practice makes perfect and effective teachers ensure that this is achieved (Valizadeh et al., 2013).

These articles are highly relevant to clinical practice. Since teachers are responsible for instilling self-confidence into their clients, which in turn positively impacts patient care, they are improving the quality of healthcare practice in the country. The choice to use simulations for training has many long term effects in addition to enhancing self-confidence, which includes enhancing the general medical knowledge of practitioners. Therefore, effective teaching is directly applicable to enhanced clinical practice. The choices that are made throughout this process shapes each student into what they will become as a healthcare professional. It is therefore necessary to integrate self-confidence building into this process so that students have the ability to continuously challenge the norms of the field and to strive for greatness. This training will impact the training of future practitioners, so it is important to strive for progress throughout the duration of the training experience, as it will further the healthcare field as a whole.
