How to Overcome Our Biases? Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 313

Essay

Words of inspiration, no matter where the words come from, have the capability of influencing our thoughts, perceptions, and behaviours. Listening to words that move emotions inside us, make us develop new perspectives and angles of viewing life. Inspiration provides viable options through which people renew hopes of believing in their self and getting to know their respective roles in life. While making a personal reflection on the Verna Myers’ How to Overcome Our Biases? Walk Boldly Toward Them talk, I will seek to develop a personal response on what I have learned from the discussion (Myers, 2015).

Watching Verna Myers’ speech taught me a lot regarding the role, I should play in handling others and myself. I learnt that our unwillingness to change our behaviours and personal perceptions of what affects us and those around us is the source of problems that mutually affect us (Myers, 2015). I learnt that a reaction to what constitutes a violation of freedom and the rights of others act as the initial step of changing ourselves and those suffering around us. Listening to the talk made me change my perception of the role I should play as an individual in promoting peaceful coexistence between individuals that suppress others and those being suppressed.

Owing to the inspiration that I acquired from the talk, I would like to work towards being an agent of change concerning addressing issues raised by biases and vices that have affected our progress as individuals. I would like to apply what I learnt from the talk to my benefits. The information, I understand will help me develop my perceptions on individuals’ norms. I will use what I have learnt teach others on what role they should play in improving their social influences against vices that affect us and those around us.
