One of the most difficult tasks facing project managers is identifying the responsibilities and roles of each member of a project team. A a number of tools can be applied to help solve this. However, the RACI matrix is an effective tool for accomplishing this task.

The RACI Matrix was a particularly useful tool in the project for a number of reasons. One of the most important advantages of the RACI matrix is it ensures that all the key processes within the project are taken into consideration (Melton, 2011). This helps to guarantee sufficient staffing for each task and/or process. Adequate staffing ensures timely completion of the project.

Project stakeholders are important facets to a project. Stakeholders generally comprises of every individual involved in the project, including the project sponsors. The RACI matrix helps identify all project stakeholders and maintain a seamless flow of information between these units as required.

It is vital that a RACI matrix chart be analyzed to ensure optimal output. Underlying issues and questions may be found to arise upon analysis of the matrix. Both vertical and horizontal elements of the RACI matrix have to be reviewed. The most important aspects to consider when analyzing a RACI matrix is; (1) the number of Rs and As within a single role, (2) the number of As delegated to a single resource (Lutchman, 2011).

In conclusion, the RACI matrix is an essential management tool that helps effectively launch and complete a project. The RACI matrix can be effectively employed to identify all the key tasks and/or processes within a project and adequately allocate human resource to these tasks or processes.
