Interview Project, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 386

Essay

Interviews are almost an inescapable reality of life because they offer an opportunity to quickly learn things about people we don’t know much about. This is why companies interview prospective employees, media networks interview political candidates, and colleges interview prospective students. My interview subject was Agne who is a close friend of my sister. The interview experience taught me that interview could be defined as an activity to learn about others as much as possible in an efficient manner.

Agne described herself as a hardworking individual, with a compassionate nature and positive attitude towards life. Agne also calls herself a reliable, responsible, and trustable person who gets along well with everyone. She claims her good grades are an evidence of her strong work ethics and high potential. In addition to work ethics, Agne also credits her success to personal strengths including time management and organizational skills. She always completes assignments ahead of time instead of waiting until the very end.

To Agne, success constitutes good health, knowledge, and having a close family rather than money, power, and fame. In her opinion, success can be an everyday affair. Agne’s friends may describe her as a good listener, loyal, trustable, caring, and an inspiring individual. They may also confirm the fact that Agne doesn’t give up in face of difficulties. In addition, she is motivated to do well in life.

The interview taught me that it is important to make the respondent feel comfortable and ask questions that encourage open response. It is also important to be a good listener and show interest because the respondent is encouraged to be more responsive to the questions asked. I also learnt that even though the focus is often on answers, it is as important to ask the right questions because they also determine the quality of answers from the respondents. I also learnt that having some information about the respondent helps towards conducting an effective interview.

My interview with Agne went well because I created a comfortable interview environment for her. My willingness to listen also encouraged Agne to open up. I had met Agne before but interview enabled me to learn about her more than what I had learnt in numerous previous meetings. But it is important to carefully plan interview and ask right questions because they influence the quality of answers.
