Characterize GM’s commitment to the environment

GM’s commitment to the environment is viewed in two different actions. First, the company is committed to preserving and restores the environment. Second, GM intends to reduce waste and pollutants through conservation of resources and recycle materials at all the production stages. Additionally, GM is viewed to be taking an active part in educating the public regarding the importance of conserving the environment. The company has been at the front line in implementing various initiatives that aim at minimizing emission of pollutants in the atmosphere (General Motors Corporation, 1994). General Motors abide by the Government Environmental Regulations and Laws. The company has adopted the government’s environmental principles that cover all key environmental areas: environmental restoration and preservation, pollutants and waste reduction, resource conservation as well as collaborating with government entities in the establishment of new regulations and rules (Raz, 2011).

I believe that GM’s commitment to the environment will certainly offset the environmental issues with greenhouse gas emissions and fuel economy. The commitment is characterized by the manufacture of cars with less emission means that GM will follow the government’s policies of reducing any form of emission from transport. The company seeks to focus on the global consumer clients who are conscious of the environment through the manufacture of fuel-efficient vehicles. Thus, GM is conscious of environmental issues while generating more profits. GM has recently announced its $ 40M investment plan, which has been developed to offset all the company’s greenhouse gas emissions. The company’s strong ambitions are based on the creation of greener vehicles. The company will produce these vehicles with the help of materials that are environmental friendly (Mikler, 2009).

GM’s real strategic reasons for these environmental initiatives

Justification of GM’s strategic reasons for the above environmental initiatives is based on the company’s support of the government. The presidential administration is making efforts in transforming existing policies into practical operations. The company’s strategic initiatives aim at protecting the global environment, human health, and natural resources. In addition, GM intends to increase its annual sales (General Motors Website, 2012). This is the reason why, the company’s creation of fuel-efficient cars will draw additional global customers and respectively, the profits. Currently, GM has reduced its overall use of energy and water in all its facilities. Additionally, the company has reduced the emission of CO2 from all its facilities by 9% in the last four years (General Motors Corporation, 1994).
