A Theoretical Prediction Model, Article Critique Example

The article by Santicola, Craig on stock repurchasing gives a detailed discussion on the shift in the payout policy for the past 15 years. According to Craig, there are factors contributing to the    payback decision and those that support the existence of the long run return abnormalities as explained in the Fama- French 3- factor prediction model.

In describing the open stock-market repurchases and the stock price behavior, it occurs that it has an asymmetrical relationship with repurchase announcements. The model predicted that the price of the stock falls before an open market announcement, and it subsequently falls upon making the announcements. In general terms, the model depicts that repurchases are superior as compared to dividends, and when there is uncertainty in the interim in the interim cash flow, pessimistic noise occurs (Santicola, 2011).

The standard event study methodology employed to analyze the abnormal stock, bonds, and the firm returns. It occurred that they too depend on the repurchase announcements. During the announcements, period stocks have abnormally positive returns; the bonds have negative returns, thus bringing positive returns to the firm (Santicola, 2011). Findings also depicted an insignificant correlation that exists between the stock and the bond returns; however, for firms having a positive signal, there are statistically significant positive stock and bond abnormal returns.

Santicola, Craig’s article gives a clear description of the theoretical prediction model. It describes the relationship between the different variables including the repurchase, dividends, and bonds, abnormalities in stock, the cash flow, and the firm returns, among other essentialities in financial management. However, the whole paper is a mess. Everything compressed in a manner that the abstract, literature review, methodology, and even the references all occur in one continuous prose. A well-organized paper would be presentable compared to the current one.
