Case Study

List three ‘key’ issues in the case and explain what makes them strategically important issues.

  • a) Management between the privatization and regulations that makes the said group of companies stronger through the years

This issue specifically marks whether or not the organization would best be able to create an extensive impact on the industry that it is enjoined with as well as towards the market it is hoping to affect and influence. Relatively, the Virgin Group of Companies operate in several different industries where each of these organizations are considered champions at the top of their own game. Relatively though, due to particular financial failures, there was a time when the administration decides to sell some of its most profiting businesses [including their sole recording company the Virgin Records] to other partners. This abrupt decision was a complete mystery to the stakeholders as well as towards the inner members of the organization. Nevertheless, the administrators knew that this was a crucial matter to give attention to which has specifically provided a good source of company economic competence in the long run.

Along with these adjustments came the brief move of the administration to make the assets of the company public and bring it back to privatized status. Reestablishing regulations is one specific process that has been embraced effectively in line with this approach relatively connected to extensive conditions of competition in the industries the said companies are involved with.

  • b) the centralization of operational administration between senior members who are accounted to have strongest influence in the organization through the years amidst extensive expansion

The core reason behind being a mysterious point of the organization is sourced out from the fact that the administrators and the central control come from original senior members who often meet with Richard Benson as the leader and chairman of the group. Notably, their approach to management is kept intact between them.

  • c) Remaining on the top of the competition amidst strong entrants and challengers in the industry that the company is enjoined with

Since the organization is based on different company-connections, it is expected that the level of competition would remain at the top of its course hence constantly challenging the position of the different branches of the different businesses it tends to control. In line with this, constant innovation and relative research should be used in consideration with the desire to remain at the top of its game hence making a remarkable indication on how it is to face the need to prepare for new comers and new competitors in the market.

How can the firm use its core competence to address each of these issues to increase its competitive advantage? Explain clearly

Being among the pioneer members of the industries they are enjoined with, it could be analyzed that the organization could best make use of their edge in becoming the first in line when it comes to new researches regarding the products and services they offer. Change is a constant element in any industry, and in the case of the organization, it is important that even though the administrational control is rather centralized, the creation of competence should be based upon extensive connection between companies that are enjoined within its control. The sustainable approach from which the operation of the organization spurs from is an important aspect from which it could remain strongly intact and remarkably notable in the market not only as branched out businesses but as a unified organization noted for its brand and the quality it offers to the market.
