Journey to the West, Essay Example

Essay

A major reason as to why I took a great interest in the Journey to the West is due to the manner in which it makes great use of certain literary forms in order to carry its main point across. For example, one pivotal point in Chapter One that I took great delight in was where the author states Where the Positive first appearsNothing has yet come to life. There are various locations throughout the story in which the author assumes a form of poetical form in order to carry his or her message across. Another reason as to why I enjoyed reading the novel was due to the manner in which the author makes use of things that individuals cannot often see in everyday life such as the underworld and the soul. Although it is certainly a long book, in my opinion, it is worth reading because of the intriguing aspects that the novel contains. There was not one point throughout all of the novel in which I was bored or started to think about something else. In addition to that, one of the aspects that I most enjoyed about the book was the manner in which it was able to show descriptive ideas and scenarios through the use of poetry. Normally, I am not intrigued by anything related to poetry, but Journey to the West proved me otherwise. As a matter of fact, my perspective on poetry as a whole has completely changed; I am now pushing myself to understand different kinds of literary forms. My favorite line from the whole novel is the last line of the book due to how subtle it is and how is leaves the reader wanting for more to read: Here ends the Journey to the West.
