This article comments on a personal incident narrated by David Moore, a venture capitalist, in a Wall Street Journal Op-ed. The author criticizes Mr. Moore for his erroneous claims and presenting personal opinions as facts as he states at one point, “the term “fat cat” did not, in fact, originate with the Obama Administration; that “more than a dozen” self-selected friends are not a great scientific basis for drawing broad political conclusions; and that homeless people frequently say angry, sometimes inexplicable things.” The author believes that the frustration among the homeless people is also due to the fact that states are cutting back social services on whom the homeless people depend.

This article will be a useful source for the research paper because it gives me an idea of how the rich people as well as the rest think. The article also helps me understand the personal bias of different economic classes in the country. What I specifically like about this source is that it made me realized how some social issues are presented as political issues and become a source of division.

This article talks about the social, health, and economic issues faced by the homeless people. The author is a practicing internist as well as an instructor of public health, thus, has a professional credibility. The article tries to dispel some of the stereotypes about homeless people and try to argue that not everyone is homeless by choice. Some of the homeless people have genuine issues which are not being adequately met by the society and indicate the widespread presence of social injustice.

This source will be valuable to my paper because it provides statistics and, thus, will allow me to do objective analysis of the homeless population. In addition, the paper throws light on my problems faced by the homeless people which are not widely known, thus, it has a great informative value as well.

Gandel, Stephen. What the S&P U.S. Credit Rating Downgrade Means. 6 August 2011. 15 February 2012 <http://business.time.com/2011/08/06/what-the-sp-u-s-credit-rating-downgrade-means/>.

This article talks about the political, social, and economic issues that led to downgrading of U.S. credit rating. The article mentions how the U.S. government will be adversely affected in its borrowing capability and in addition, the adverse effects of the downgrading on the U.S. economy in the short and long term. This article also hints at possible reasons the government could have avoided such as eliminating tax breaks for the rich.

This article lends credibility to the claim that the economic problems in the U.S. are not a fault of the middle and poor class but have also grown in size due to the attitude of the U.S. government and the rich class. This article will help me make the argument that rich people also need to change their perspectives and accept their mistakes. In addition, the solutions to the economic challenges require sacrifice by everyone in the country including the most prosperous Americans.

This article talks about Fannie Mae including its history, its political connections, financial fraud by the management, and its role in creating the housing bubble that ultimately blew up in the wake of financial crisis. The article mentions how Fannie Mae’s management had always felt invulnerable due to its political connections and enjoyed unfair advantage against private sector competitors such as Citibank and Wells Fargo. It also details how the government including the ex-President Bush’s administration used it to advance their political agenda such as higher percentage of home ownership in the country.

This article will help me make the point that it is misrepresentation of the actual facts to blame homeless people for their problems or those home owners who defaulted on their obligations. The politicians, private sector, and federally-sponsored organizations such as Fannie Mae share major responsibility for creating the housing bubble than the private citizens. In fact, the increase in homeless people is also in part due to the fact that many lost jobs due to the economic crisis which might not have happened were it not for the corrupt practices on the Wall Street as well as irresponsible behavior by the Fed and the elected politicians. Thus, it is only fair that the society helps homeless people get back on their feet and provide assistance in difficult times.

This article talks about the financial cost of the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailout to the tax payers. The article claims that the losses will only continue to grow with the decline in the housing market. The potential solutions require government intervention in one way or another and the private sector cannot solve the crisis created by Freddic Mac and Fannie Mae’s failures.

This article will be a great source because it will allow me to point out the need for some government justification in the economy because private sector is not as efficient as it is normally assumed. In addition, this article also shows that those who call helping homeless people socialism tend to forget that even private corporations and government agencies have also utilized government bailouts and other incentives. Thus, everyone shares blame in the housing collapse including homeowners who borrowed beyond their borrowing capacity, government and Fed who kept interest rates too low to make it easy to borrow, and the private sector that engaged in predatory lending and ignored its own rules in order to boost revenues and profit on the paper.

This is the professional profile of venture capitalist David Moore who wrote the infamous op-ed in the Wall Street Journal. The profile helps us learn about David’s professional career and will be helpful in identifying his personal bias as reflected in the opinion. A better knowledge of David’s past may also help us understand why the rich economic class think the way they think and enable us to formulate more objective responses to their arguments.

This is an information website maintained by National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. It lists various kinds of information such as statistics, needs of homeless veterans, how homeless veterans can be assisted, what could be done to alleviate the issue, and what are the best solutions. This organization has a practical experience in dealing with the issues of homeless veterans and, thus, the website could be a valuable source of ideas as to how the challenge of homeless people could be met. In addition, this website shows that homeless people are not always lazy as some presume but instead is sometimes forced by circumstances outside one’s control.

I realize that this source may have a biased view of the homeless issue because the very purpose of the organization is to assist homeless veterans, thus, I will use this source with caution so as to avoid confirmation bias.

This source is valuable to the research paper because it will help us evaluate the views of the elected officials and how effective the Congress has been in dealing with the issue of homeless people as well as other related issues.
