Leadership Within the Nursing Profession, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 340

Essay

Leadership within the nursing profession is not only a duty, but is a responsibility that must be taken seriously at all times. Leaders must set an example for others to live by, and this is particularly significant in the nursing work environment because it provides a means of understanding the dynamics between nurses and patients. There must be a greater emphasis on fulfilling the word of God through the professional responsibilities of this role. This requires all nurse leaders to act in a professional manner and to be mindful of their thoughts, words, and actions with respect to their fellow nurses and towards patients. These actions must reflect an ethically responsible approach to decision-making and provide a framework for others to follow that will fulfill the needs and duties of the nursing profession at all levels.

In a leadership capacity, supporting the truth set forth by prior evidence is one critical characteristic that nurses must share with others in order to improve their own practice environments. This is demonstrated through analyses of specific protocols and strategies in order to determine their effectiveness and if changes are required that could improve patient care quality. Therefore, nurse leaders must share these ideas with others with the intent to improve the practice environment and to support a realistic and truthful strategy to meet patient needs. God’s word is truth; therefore, nurses must set their own example by supporting the truth within prior evidence. By engaging nurse leaders in these tools, it is possible to set a positive example that will enable nurses to recognize the value of prior evidence in establishing priorities for patients that will translate into safe and effective outcomes and improved wellbeing. It is with these perspectives in mind that nurse leaders are able to communicate the truth about the practice setting and to improve practice methods as necessary to support a successful environment for high quality patient care, excellence in all required tasks, and the core values set forth by the nursing profession.
