Implementing Pillars of Jesuit Leadership, Reaction Paper Example

Jesuit schools are all tremendous success stories by any measure. The Jesuits have anticipated and responded to the challenging needs of their students and in the process, they have built the largest privately organized system of higher education in the world. Being part of a Jesuit School has given me the opportunity to be part of a strong school in which I can develop my current skills but also learn new ones. Specifically, I am blessed to be part of an extraordinary community where I can expand my knowledge through learning, justice and faith. It is an exciting and challenging endeavor that I am blessed to be part of. In addition, being a student at a Jesuit school allows me to incorporate my personal ethical beliefs in practice more efficiently. Therefore, I constantly strive to implement pillars of Jesuit leadership into my actions so that I could ensure that my contributions to my work and community are beneficial.

According to Lowney, heroism means that “leaders energize themselves and others with great ambitions and a passion to excel” (Lowney, 2007). I personally identify with this pillar of Jesuit leadership to a significant extent and believe that it is possible for me to achieve my own personal goals by helping others. The benefits gained from commitment to education or work are usually more valuable than those that are achieved with ease. Therefore, individuals that incorporate heroism into their practice are those who understand that it is essential to attempt challenging tasks. For example, the financial burden of independently financing my education was taxing. It would have been easier to quit college and spend my earnings on leisure activities, like many others. However, I believe that the value of education is priceless, which drove me to struggle to pursue a higher education. In spite of the academic and personal challenges I knew that I would face as a result, I was aware that this option would help contribute to the greater good. Ultimately, by struggling to make ends meet, I was able to gain a deeper appreciation for the higher education I have been fortunate to achieve. I believe this is exemplary of heroism because I decided to take the more challenging path in order to obtain the greater reward.

Heroism is a pillar of Jesuit leadership that I have regularly enacted during my internship experience. Enigma Company is a world leader in the field of technology production, operating at a high level of excellence and expertise. One of the most important lessons I have learned in my professional development at this company has been the value of strong guidance and mentorship. The opportunity to be mentored by Enigma Company professionals who function at a high level day in and day out is invaluable. Because I have demonstrated my passion about learning more about the daily operations of Enigma Company, my superiors have been more enthusiastic about helping me achieve my internship and professional goals. Furthermore, I have been told that my motivation has motivated other interns, which has positively contributes to the organizational culture of the company. This is exemplary of heroism because I have been able to use my own personal interests and motivations to help others. As such, I am hopeful that this internship will provide me with the opportunity to demonstrate my talents in this field and present me with opportunities for employment or advancement of my career in the future.

Another pillar of Jesuit leadership that has been apparent in my internship practices is ingenuity. Throughout my experience, I have remained dedicated to my efforts in the company, which has ultimately resulted in the mastery of prescribed techniques. As an intern at Enigma Company, my main responsibilities include researching U.S. regulations, including Congressional notes and public laws on specific issues as requested. While this was challenging at first, I have been able to break these tasks down to a science and I am now able to complete requested projects efficiently and accurately. In addition, I am asked to research and present both information concerning multinational corporations for new regulatory requirements. My superiors have been impressed with the improvements I have made completing these tasks as well. As a consequence of my current implementation of ingenuity, I have a better understanding of the term and believe that I will be able to incorporate this skill in my professional career practice.

My personal experiences have led me to believe that ability to keep learning is beneficial. Heroism and ingenuity are important components of Jesuit leadership and their continued implementation will help me succeed in my academic and professional goals. Because of the skills that I have learned during my internship experience, I believe that I am more prepared for working in the real world.
