Leaving Young Children in the Care, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 363

Essay

Leaving young children in the care of another person warrants a high level of trust. Regular communication between parents and caregivers foments and establishes a higher level of trust between day care and home. Moreover, such a relationship facilitates the ability of parents and caregivers to confront any problems that materialize. Moreover, a sense of appreciation and respect develops, thereby making children feel at ease at day care if they sense a strong relationship between caregiver and parent. A strong relationship is built through information sharing since a parent is not present at the day care and thus does not know what takes place throughout the day. Conversing with the caregiver is an easy way to share information about quotidian activities while a child is out of parental care. Moreover, parents can stay in the loop about upcoming events such as parent-teacher conferences, class parties, or open houses. Reciprocal communication between daycare and home ensures that parents have knowledge of a center’s rules and policies as well as the expectations of the parent such as sick policy and what time students need to be picked up. Regular communication also foments a sense of continuity between daycare and home. Children establish a routine based on personal habits in the home, so when those habits are conveyed to the caregiver, the caregiver feels more equipped to care for a child. Collaboration retains significant currency in the everyday care of children. One example is the process of potty training, as parents can check in daily with the caregiver regarding any progress made.  Successes and failures that parents have experienced when potty training their child can be useful for caregivers throughout the process. Parents get to know caregivers by constantly checking in, and if trust is broken the caregiver must exhibit trustworthy behavior on a consistent basis in order to restore the relationship.

Parents/Caregivers often have opinions of what a child “should be learning”. Measurable goal/objectives can be a great communication tool if used correctly. Measurable goal/objectives always match and they are skill based and child centered.  The child/ren  who read three times a day independently for thirty minutes will become satisfactory readers by the end of the school year.
