Essay

“Long ago, long ago. The simple things come back to us. They rest for a moment by our ribcages then suddenly reach in and twist our hearts a notch backward”, this quote from McCann’s Let The Great World Spin tells so much about how he wants to present his characters to his readers as he desires for each of these individuals to impact the thinking of his readers. Relatively, McCann focuses on how each character’s being is established as they are able to create a manifestation that the target readers would be easily able to relate to. To do this, he makes sure that each character’s being is realistic and somewhat relative to what the general public might be able to understand from their own personal standpoint.

From the quotation noted above, it is indicated by McCann that it is but natural for humans to learn from the past. The experiences they undergo does leave a mark hence has the capability to either make them better or drive them into a worse case. Considerably the condition by which a human develops depends on how he himself intends to interpret the lesson life offers him. This fact is shown all throughout the written work of McCann as he tries to develop his characters’ value as humans who are able to comprehend and learn from the experiences they get in life. Realizing the mark that each of these experiences have on them, the characters used by McCann in his story strongly portrays the actuality on how humans respond to life’s most important lessons shared and established through incurred experiences. Holding on this theme, the quotation above further points out the possibility by which several human individuals intend to respond to what life offers them as a sense of opportunity that could mark them for life. From a novelist’s standpoint, this is how McCann tries to create a foundation for his characters as they are affected and influenced by the overall plot and theme of his story,
