Letter to My Boss, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 447

Essay

I am writing to you in the hopes that this letter will cause you to implement changes at your restaurant, McDonald’s. I believe that this will be beneficial to you, your customers, and your employees in the long run. Since I have been working at this McDonald’s, I have become extremely distressed about the lack of seriousness among employees, which I believe is having a negative impact at the restaurant. I am primarily concerned about two areas: the financial transactions and accuracy of cash exchange between the cash register and consumers, and the atmosphere in the restaurant which comes across as extremely unprofessional too much of the time.

First, the financial worry: because there is so much joking around, there is often very little attention being paid to ringing up items accurately on the cash register, and several customers have complained that they were not given proper change. The opposite has been true as well, when I have observed myself that customers have been undercharged or have been given more change than is due them. I do not believe that this is intentional behavior on the part of your employees–most of them are my friends, and I think that they are honest and do not view this as potentially sabotaging the profits of the business. Rather, I believe that it is simply carelessness, and that they enjoy coming to work and having fun, which is a good thing, but because the atmosphere is so frivolous at times, they are not attending to their responsibilities with enough concentration. My second concern, the atmosphere in the restaurant, revolves around the same issue in a sense: my coworkers and I have such a good time working together that sometimes there is just too much joking around and laughing and not concentrating on customer service. My worry is that the customers are being neglected sometimes because they can’t get the attention of the staff that are being paid to cater to them. I have been guilty of such behavior at times, but more recently because I would like to someday own a restaurant I have become more aware of staff behavior that is detracting from the excellent customer service that I know you expect in your restaurant. If you address this with staff, I would really appreciate it if you would refrain from mentioning my connection with bringing this to your attention, since I do not wish to jeopardize my relationships with my coworkers. I hope you know that I am bringing this up only in an effort to maximize the quality of service and profits at your business since I truly enjoy working there, and so I want it to succeed.
