Case Study

In consideration with the purpose of this study which is to identify the actual impact to self-reference on the capacity of a person to remember, the researcher hopes to include at least 15 participants into the process that is to be taken into consideration. The 15 participants shall be coming from one class of young learners ranging from ages 15 to 16, hopefully studying in the same learning institution.

The reason for this particular choice of participants is that it is expected that the individual would respond accordingly to the questions presented to them in a way that they remember each element of learning based from experience and stock knowledge. Through this approach, it is deemed by the researcher that assessing the results would be much easier to define due to the fact that they margin of mistakes is lessened. The containment of the environmental the participants have been involved with shall lessen the possibility by which the difference of results should be specifically identified. The common grounds of the identity of the participants invokes the researcher’s capacity to provide relative analysis that would best define what the participants’ status of memory is and how the said situation affected the way they responded to the questions presented to them.

The instrumentation to be used for this approach includes the personal survey questions and the learning recall section. The first section shall be a personally-based survey which includes multiple-answer queries that would help the researcher identify the common environment that defines the being of each participant. This approach would set a better sense of comparison between the individuals enjoined in the process concerned. The second part, which is the learning recall section entails to assume the possibility of the individuals being able to remember particular lessons that they have been presented through the different years of their learning from the first grade towards their own learning level. This aspect is hoped to create a specific indication on whether or not self-referencing does influence the learning process of the individuals enjoined in the said research method.

Based from this presentation of methodology, the independent variable would be that of the consideration over the being of the participants in an individual aspect. Their environment and their background cannot be redefined. These aspects of personality shall be used as an element that would best define the being of each individual and practically create a connection on how and why they were able to remember particular parts of the learning recall section. Assessing the results from this methodology shall be handled through qualitative approach. Understanding how the brain functions based on stock knowledge and experiential learning shall be the primary source of foundation that this research is to be based upon. Hence, with this in mind, it is expected that the responses of the participants would provide a great indication on how their experiences through time have altered the knowledge that they have gained from school and how such learning has been retained in their minds through time. Given their age range, recall procedures are expected to be incurred easily. Nevertheless, the impact of the experiences could alter such capacity hence making it easier for this research to provide a more indicative reflection on how self-reference effect actually works. With this approach, it is expected that the researcher would be able to instantiate a relative condition by which humans tend to remember or forget both elements of learning and memory based on how such information appeals to them personally. The capacity to remember matters fully is then to be explained in the research’s discussion further through the use of theories that are in consideration with the proof of the existence of self-reference effect. From this approach, the researcher hopes to gain expansive and helpful information to prove that self reference effect do have a direct impact on the thinking process of human individuals.
