Life After the 2008 Financial Depression, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 287

Essay

The story is a portrayal of life after the 2008 Financial Depression. It narrates of how some Americans face difficulties in making ends meet despite the efforts they put at work.

In my opinion, the author’s description portrays the irony in the American society, which although a super power, has its learned community still toiling to make ends meet. Before the Great Recession, individuals had promising careers in the corporate world and earned decent salaries. The situation changed during the 2008-2009 Economic Depression leading to great loss of jobs.

In my opinion, the author depicts that the economy is still faced by serious crises since the Depression as it is yet to recover. Indeed, the economy is more unsecure as it was before the Great Depression. Most affected areas include jobs and household incomes, which are yet to recover.

In regards to efforts by the government to resolve the issues, I perceive that policymakers have appeared to come up with policies that tend to benefit the super-rich and large corporations at the expense of small businesses, the poor and the middle-class.    According to the author, policies have not only been slow to resolve uneven recovery, they have enriched the already wealthy individuals who pull down huge salaries each year.

What casts this opinion in more negative light is the feeling that personal finances have been greatly affected. Because of the low income, individuals have to rely on Medicare, reduce their savings and live in low-end housing facilities. Job situations have also remained a concern, as getting a decent job is difficult. To sustain a lifestyle, people have to depend on multiple jobs.

Another concern is that individuals who are deeply affected have lost hope in ever getting a decent corporate job.
