Two things that significantly impacted my learning pertained to developing a professional attitude and the other relates to functioning at a level for students or less qualified staff use my expertise as a role model. It was important learning how to develop professionalism in articulating decisions. There is always a professional way to deal with situations in the work environment. As a senior nurse I learnt that it was my responsibility to remain calm and poised when responding to challenging situations. In being role model within my practice means perfuming with excellence at all times. Therefore, my deportment must be one of distinction.

  1. One suggestion I can give to my peers is organizing a mentoring program in units where student nurses rotate. While there are clinical instructors and area supervisors many students, especially, during their internship could do with some additional help when rotating on all of the clinical areas. Transferring theory into practice is not as simple as when explained in a classroom. Therefore supplemental mentoring towards achieving desired outcomes is important.

Also, much of the strategies the student learns in the classroom are not transferred exactly the way they may be written in the book. Even are supervisors and clinical instructors may not recognize some differences. So when a student has a mentor who is working on the  unit he/she can expressed concerns freely and be given clarifications regarding the differences.

  1. A valuable piece of literature that can be incorporated providing life -long learning for health- care professionals is  ‘Lifelong Learning in the 21st Century and Beyond’ by Dr. Jannette Collins. This scholar advances that learning continues once one is alive. Education is infinite. As such, the end of compulsory education is no pathway to freedom from institutional learning. Life is a school where learning occurs  every moment all the time (Collins, 2009).
