Essay

How Would You as a DNP-Prepared Leader Enable Forces of Magnetism to Improve the Future of Nursing?

It is essential to enable forces of magnetism to improve the future of nursing. According to the lecture, magnetism consists of five steps including transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, continuous quality improvement, and quality care (ANCC, 2008). As a DNP-prepared leader, I would enable these forces by enacting positive leadership in a manner that promotes ethical practices and evidence-based action within my health care institution. In particular, this practice applies to my role in the maternity ward because I am responsible for ensuring that new nurses are able to adapt to organizational requirements in addition to determining whether they are experiencing any gaps in knowledge that need to be filled. Ultimately, nurses that a prepared to enable the forces of magnetism to improve the future of nursing should have an enhanced ability to determine where problems within the organization exist and to use this knowledge to solve problems creatively and effectively.

One of the main aspects of magnetism that I could be involved with as a DNP nurse is professional development (Curran, 2014). While my organization has many such programs in place, it is necessary to determine whether they are effective and whether they meet the needs of the institution. Therefore, I believe that I would be able to play a valuable role in determining the educational needs of the nurses on staff and creating effective programs that would be able to close the gap in knowledge that currently exists. Furthermore, this training programs could be optimized to benefit nurses on a variety of experience and educational levels. Ultimately, such a professional development program would benefit maternity nurses because it will help them feel more confident in their practice in addition to equipping them skills that are necessary for success.
