Marine Rhodes, Essay Example

Pages: 4

Words: 1049

Essay

I have been the room mate of Marine LCPL Rhodes and have seen first hand the respect that she has, or more correctly, does not have, for the rules and regulations required of a marine.  When Marine Rhodes was first assigned to my quarters on April 23, 2010, I explained to her the daily duties required of her.   I advised her to keep the sleep area clean, to organize all her things neatly and to get rid of any boxes as well as throw away trash daily and to lock all her things every time she left the room.  Marine Rhodes consistently failed to abide by the rules.  On April 27, I reminded the marine of the duties required of her in terms of keeping her quarters neat and clean.  However, after she came back from leave she had more personal items that were left out and in the boxes, which she had never gotten rid of even though I had requested that she do so on April 23.  During Memorial weekend the marine mentioned she couldn’t put anything under her bed because she needed room for her old car tires.  I reminded her that old tires were not allowed in the quarters and that she should not even attempt to bring them in.

On June 2 I saw that Marine Rhodes had failed to lock her secretary and wall locker  and that she had failed to throw away her trash.  There were multiple personal items left out laying around her bed.  Before I left, I want ahead and locked her secretary.  At that point Marine Rhodes entered the quarters again and unlocked her secretary and left it open, without even taking anything out.  On Thursday she had field day.  For inspection, she hid her dirty clothes from field under her bed until inspection was over.  After inspection, the room again became cluttered with her personal items and trash.

During the weekend her boxes were taking some of my personal space and I confronted her about it on Monday.  When I arrived at quarters after work on Monday I told the marine I wanted all the boxes to be gone and her things to be organized.  She said that she was planing to do it over the weekend, but since it was only Monday I told her I wanted the boxes to be gone by Thursday, which was 4 days away.  Her response was to give me an annoyed look and explain to me that she had a “ton” of things to do during the week.   Needless to say, she made no attempts to clean up after herself or get rid of her boxes during the week.  When she was released for the day, she would come to the room and take her dirty fatigues off and throw them to the side of the bed with her dirty boots.  After changing into dirty civilian attire, she would then come back sand sit and eat in front of her TV or text until she would go to bed.

Marine Rhodes does not keep her personal grooming standards up to par as is required for a good marine.  She does take showers but does not take care to wash her clothing.  She will put on the same dirty fatigues, underwear, and civilian clothes back on after a shower.  Her clothes do smell dirty and moldy, and it is true that you can smell her from a distance.  On more than one occasion I have brought it to her attention that a good marine needs to keep their personal grooming standards at a high level, and wearing dirty clothing is not proper for a marine.  However, she has continued to ignore my advice and continues to wear dirty and smelly clothing, both on duty and off.

On Friday she didn’t come to the room until midnight.  The following day she woke up a 1400 when I was walking out of the room.   Before I left the room I told the marine once again that I wanted the boxes gone and the room cleaned before I got back.  When I  returned later that day marine Rhodes was not in the room.  The boxes were still there, but hidden in her wall locker, which was not even locked.  Dirty clothing and shoes were thrown about the room and on the side of her bed.  On Monday she had a new box in front the door and more items on top of it.

On Tuesday morning I confronted her again about her dirty laundry and personal grooming.  I told her that I wanted her to wash her uniforms and clothes since they hadn’t been washed since April 27th.  I was only ten feet away and was but was able to smell her stench.  Her reaction when I told her this was rude, and the expression on her face was full of attitude.  She threw her blouse on the floor and threw her belt on the chair.  I asked if anything was wrong and she said that she had a headache.  She took off with out locking her things or taking out her trash.

When I came back to that room that afternoon after the range I expected to see her in the room getting her uniforms ready to wash but she wasn’t even there and the uniforms had not been washed.  When she finally came into the room she had a puppy with her.  The smell of the dog combined with her smell was overwhelming.  She then proceeded to take her clothes off and take a shower with the puppy, leaving the restroom smelling like wet animal. When she let the puppy out of the bathroom, it was not on its leash and started to walk around sniffing and whining. I told her to take that dog out of the room before it did its business on the carpet.  She did so, and left the quarters without cleaning up after herself.  She left a smelly mess in the shower, didn’t pick up her clothing and left her personal  items unsecured.  I proceeded to clean the restroom because it smelled so bad.  While I was cleaning up after Marine Rhodes, Sgt. Jarnigan came and saw all her things unsecured and her dirty fatigues and clothes stuffed and hidden on her bed side.
