Mark’s Personality in Relation to Jung Theory, Case Study Example

According to Jung, Mark even thoughhe loved his job and is motivated by thedutie,s after a while continuing to perform the same tasks day after day this become very routine and boring. As such, he has now developed an attitude of complacency whereby the goals of his occupation have been achieved and he has reached saturation point. However, according to Jung Mark’s superior function is communicating with students while still operating as a fire fighter. Jung emphasizes that a superior function could evolve as a higher motivation when employed in a certain vocation. Mark fantasied about his occupation as a fire fighter during childhood, but now he seeks another function to supplement this role to add more meaning to his life. This switch in Mark’s stimulation is normal at his age according to Jung. If variety is the spice of life then moving towards more stimulating functions adds more interest to life. These changes could be due to further development of the unconscious mind (Jung, 1966).

Consequently, Jung advocates that these elements of the collective unconscious mind are classifiedarchetypes.  Archetypes are really demonstrations of the psychic powers which innate forces perpetuating action and developing distinct qualities in a person’s character. This sharing quality is innate to Mark, distinguishing the psychic archetype abilities he has derived instinctively. It would appear that he is not aware of this psychic demonstration. However, the joy it brings energy obtained from performing the activity justifies the engagement. Also,it brings him satisfactionsupplementing the routine firefighting duties he has to perform daily(Jung. 1066).

Mark could be at the later developmental stage whereby the psychoid aspect of the archetype is demonstrated. This phase it is believed to link psychic abilities to scientists’ inventions. For Mark this was produced in his love of teaching elementary students while his vocation was firefighting. During the time of Mark’s presence of a super hero, perhaps, he was exhibiting the shadow archetype, which is inhibited through daily activities. The Freudian theory can further explain Mark’s because Jung personality developments assumptions were derived from criticizing Freud’s propositions (Jung, 1966).

Toshimi’s Career

According to Adler’s theory everyone seeks fulfilment in life and due to Toshimi’s health condition during her childhood it could be perceived that as an adult she was seeking that fulfilment in choosing a ballet dancing care. Precisely it was an unfilled desire during childhood when overprotective parents deprived her of the accomplishments children her age should enjoy. Consequently, Toshimi’s goal was achievestrength and have it demonstrated in her body as an astute dancer. It was believed as a child to perform physically was beyond her accomplishment level/ ability since she was born prematurely. First, Toshimi was conditioned into feeling that she was inadequate physically.The career choice is in direct response to overcoming the conditioning behavior taught during childhood.

Adler definitely would not consider Toshimi to have good parenting. Her space and only child position in the family created an insidious dependence on the parents, who loved the contribution they were making to her dependence. From Erickson’s perspective Toshimi was rob her of childhood developmental stage experinces due to undue infiltration by parents. Further, Rotter’s expectancy and reinforcement theory relates to learning. Toshimi’s nagging was a reinforcement strategy which ultimately led to her parents learning that she need to break free from the psychological chains with which she was bound all he life (Quizlet, 2014).
