Ethical principles must serve as the hallmark of any educational platform and approach to leadership. Using tools to identify one’s moral character is critical to this process and represents a need to evaluate the conditions that impact personal beliefs and core values. Leadership must convey virtues and beliefs that will have a lasting impact on the life span and demonstrate a means of advancing personal growth over social policy and advocacy (Sommers, 1992). In this context, it is necessary to apply virtue to the leadership spectrum and to recognize the value of personal ethics when serving in a leadership role to improve decision-making capabilities at this level (Maxwell, 2014).

From a personal point of view, it is important to sustain ethical principles that will impact the life span that go above and beyond those established by organizations or social groups. Personal ethics must be universally applied to many different types of situations and must impact how individuals make decisions in many situations, including those within an organizational or social context. It is important to identify these principles and to be consistent when applying them to many different situations, as this reflects a need to further examine how to approach all decisions in an ethically responsible manner.

Basic ethics are applicable in a general context and represent a means of applying general virtues and ethical beliefs across all settings and decisions. This is an important step towards the discovery of individual self-awareness and core values to improve decision-making. At the same time, ethical dilemmas require the adoption of specific principles that may impact a given situation in a manner that will benefit those who are affected by these circumstances. This reflects the importance of evaluating how ethical dilemmas introduce specific ethical concepts that may or may not be used in daily living; therefore, this is an important distinction to make in different settings.
