MBTI Assessment, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 610

Essay

After taking the MBTI assessment test, my personality type turned out to be IFNJ which stands for introvert, intuitive, intuitive feeling, and judging (Human Metrics). An accompanying analysis of test result states that people who fall in the same personality profile as me are sympathetic to others and are selective about friends and company they keep. In addition, they are also fluent in language and communication. They are not only interested in the observable world but also in understanding the hidden meanings and forces. This explains why they not only try to learn about people but also the psychology behind human behaviors. They are also private and only express their feelings and emotions to those with whom they share close relationship. This is why INFJs are usually able to earn the trust of those they know and are seen as reliable individuals. INFJs are also good at seeing the abstract picture since they tend to be intuitive. They tend to be more successful in professions where there is room for thinking and creativity such as arts as opposed to clear cut rules and logics such as sciences (Butt and Heiss). INFJs also have a strong vision and see many imaginative possibilities that others may miss. They are future oriented and often have unusual insights (Team Technology).

I could not have agreed more with the above assessment and believe that it really does define me well. I like to meet people because I want to learn more about them and what drives their thinking or actions but at the same time, I also prefer a small circle of close friends as opposed to wide circle of social friends. I do like to read on different topics but instead of going into details, I am often analyzing information for its real world implications. My friends often tell me that I am really good at identifying trends when I go outside and how the society may be evolving because I can see the big picture quite well. My friends also find me trustable and share their opinions with me because they feel I do not judge people and can put myself in others’ shoes.

My major is fashion merchandizing and it suits my personality type because while the use of data is growing in fashion merchandizing, fashion companies also rely on people who can spot emerging trends before others. In addition, I will be an effective member of teams because I can communicate well and can get along with different types of people due to my people skills. I will also be effective at marketing research projects especially those that involve open-ended questions. Customers’ opinions are not always quantifiable but my ability to see the big picture will help me identify their preferences and needs and use the intuitive knowledge to suggest products that have high probability of being embraced.

In fashion merchandising, it is important to anticipate future trends and my ability to see the bigger picture will be helpful. My observations of fashion choices by customers will give me good idea of products that may appeal to customers. The customer base is becoming increasingly diverse and since I am interested in learning about the unique characteristics of people, I will be able to formulate effective marketing strategies to meet the needs of diverse customer groups. My employer may also benefit from sending me to fashion shows to get a feel of the future direction of fashion and translate the observations into practical products.
