Essay

One of the most influential people in my life would have to be my mother. While everything may not be ideal in our relationship, as with any other young person and their parental figure(s), I must say that she has been a role model to me. Highlighting a couple of key areas where I find this inspiration, I will attempt to describe just what she has done in my life and how I would like to follow her example.

Work Ethic

Without a doubt, one area where I find inspiration has to be in my mother’s work ethic. For instance, my mother’s office is always organized. From the fresh, lemon smell to the careful placement of her files, everything is in perfect order. Her work ethic is something that is central to her, as a mother and as a worker. It is one area where I have found a great deal of meaning, especially as I look towards my career goals and role in a future family.

Career and School

As I have grown up, my mother has always been dedicated to her career. From working late nights to her education, she has placed a high priority on this in her life. As you can imagine, while I may not always be too open to her suggestions, she has nonetheless succeeded in giving importance to my studies.

Watching my mother in her career has been interesting. Through some of the tougher times, it has been thought-provoking to see her dedication come through. No matter what obstacle comes her way, she always has the ability to meet it head on and power through, so to speak, in order to make it in the end. One time she sat in her office all night, at home, at the computer. Staying up much later than I did, she did not stop until she was finished. With red eyes and probably a couple hours’ of sleep, she stayed at it. I believe that this has had a big effect on how I view work ethic in my current and future endeavors.

The implications in my current and future studies, as well as my future career, has been greatly affected by my mother’s example. As I have struggled to keep my focus and head in my studies, it’s good to see how my mother has succeeded. It gives me reason to stay committed, however difficult, in what I what to accomplish. I think that this will not only have a huge impact on my education, but in my future career.

Home Life

Balance has always been a strength of my mother’s work ethic. Not only does she have to concentrate on her career, but she does a great job of making sure the home is in order. It’s amazing to think about how she still has time to clean, make dinner for us, and so on, along with her work – and the rest of her life, if there is any time left. On the weekends she’ll be there with a mop and the vacuum, ready to work after a long week of “normal” work.

While this is perhaps a small point in the grand scheme of things, it is an important area when I consider her impact in my life. As I look towards getting married and having a family, I want to be someone who can not only be dedicated to my career, but my family as well. I would like to follow her example in being able to balance work and home life, as some people can neglect one of these items, both, or perhaps worse, be consumed by both to a fault. It all takes a careful balancing act, and I’d love to succeed in the future in this.

Personality

Perhaps most noticeable is my mother’s personality. This is something that has allowed my mother to be such a significant figure in my life. It has not only improved our relationship, but other relationships in my life: now and those to come.

Caring

One of the most resounding things about my mother’s personality is how caring she can be. One day I was sick, and without asking, a bowl of soup was brought to me. I could smell it from my room as I lay in bed. Before I knew it, a big bowl of my favorite soup was there. That day she continued to care for me, from taking my temperature to making sure my school items were in order. From the soup to the movies she set for me to watch, she cared for me when I was sick that day, and she has done it again and again. I consider myself lucky to have such a loving and caring mother, someone that I can count on to be there for me.

This is something that has greatly influenced me. As a role model for who I want to be as I develop as an adult, I would like to demonstrate the same care to others. I would love to be a caring spouse and parent in the future, and also to my friends. By having the ability to put others first, as my mom does, I think that I can grow as a person and have a personality that others will enjoy.

Fun

As much as I hate to admit it (joking), my mother is a fun person to be around. It can be enjoyable to do things with my mother, at least most of the time! From playing games to going out and doing something special, her fun-loving attitude is yet another area where I find inspiration. One day my mom told us a joke. Unexpectedly it came, and it made my brother laugh hysterically. Out of nowhere, my mom made a great joke and then went back to what she was doing, holding herself back from laughing as well.

Yes, sometimes some current clichés apply with my mom, but that’s part of the fun. She knows she can be – well, for lack of a better term, “lame!” But yet, she enjoys herself and still manages to have fun despite the inability to dance or sing, for instance. It’s part of what makes her, her.

Conclusion

To really pinpoint all of the areas where my mom inspires me is very difficult. It’s certainly not just manifest in the areas of work ethic and personality. It definitely extends to much more than that. She has a lot of love about her personality, work ethic, and others – from her intelligence and compassion to other positive traits and strengths.

One of the most important points to highlight is her balance. Touching on this to some extent previously, it’s difficult to explain how inspiring this has been to me. Somehow she manages to balance work and home life, her career and her family, and so forth. This is something that can certainly help me in the future, in my work, education, personal life, and so on.

Overall, my mother is a fun-loving, caring, devoted human being. She is incredibly caring and she always tries to do what she can to help me. In her work, she has demonstrated dedication and commitment that I find noble. Other aspects that cannot be covered due to space, here, are also present in our relationship and how I view her as a person.

The result is one that I can use to better myself and others. Seeing her interact with others, and improve herself in many ways, serves as an inspiration and someone who I can look up to as a role model. I can follow her work ethic to become a better student and worker today and in the future. I can learn to be there for others that I know and love, in order to show compassion and to help others. Through my mother’s strengths and weaknesses, I can discover more about myself and how I can become a better human being.
