It is intuitively obvious that the mentally ill people are treated differently.  In fact, stigma is one of the most important problems encountered by mentally ill persons. It is partly due to the public misconception from the media. Therefore, understanding the issue of stigma will mark an important stride towards the management of mental illness. In this regard, I think that recent studies should focus on answering this question “which is the best method that we can use to reduce stigma toward mentally ill persons?” Interestingly, there exists ample of research whose finding marks a crucial stride toward understanding the issues. Researchers propose that the use of the concept of structural discrimination will broaden the understanding of stigmatization process. It is evident that the use of modified labeling perspective leads to a negative outcome.  Some reports show negative connections between disguised shame and a fury of mental variables.  While the issue of understanding stigma among mentally ill continues to receive more attention, recent studies have demonstrated that stigma among mentally ill continues to increase. It calls for even more research on this topic.

I liked the way you have discussed the issue of stigmatization against mentally ill persons. You have presented your views in a clear and simple manner.  Indeed, I agree with you that, stigmatization against mentally ill persons, have serious implications. It lowers self-esteem and disrupts family relationships. Furthermore, mentally ill persons can hardly socialize since they are treated differently.  However, while it is also true that public, misconception from the media is one of the factors that increase cases of discrimination against the person with mental illness; this is only part of the problem. Personally, I feel that cases of violence done by mentally ill person contribute greatly to them being discriminated. The violence can only be minimized by treating them. Reducing the cases of violence, will change the perception held by the majority of public that it is dangerous to interact with such people. It will in turn reduce discrimination.
