Research Question:
This research shall be dependent on a specifically single-directed question regarding what other elements contribute to the development of PTSD besides single traumatic incidents? This question has been considered to establish the foundation of this research to be based upon the course by which a particular group of human individuals tend to develop specific points of PTSD in their personal behaviors hence affecting their attitude towards life and the matters that they deal with everyday.
Hypothesis
To establish a proper direction for the correlative path that the research shall follow, the hypothesis for this study shall be based upon the idea that emotional, social, and mental health factors contribute to the development and perpetuation on PTSD. At this point, the researcher hopes to see more than just what have already been reported through DSM-III records and explore more on the in-depth aspects of PTSD as it becomes directly affective on the living conditions of the individuals involved.
Instrumentation
To be able to get a viable response to the question for this research and make a definitive condition in defining the applicability and accuracy of the hypothesis based on actual research procedure; this study shall be based upon to specific tests. One being that of a survey process and another is the observation procedure. The first process being the survey procedure shall involve the utilization of 50 questionnaires that are to be handed out to participants separately [25 questions each] within two separate sessions of meeting with the said participants. This instrumentation shall provide the researcher with the forehand information about the opinions and the primary conditions of the participants as their situations could possibly result to PTSD.
The first set of the survey questions shall be dedicated towards noting whether or not the participants have an idea of what PTSD is. It shall also include some personal questions which the researcher could use to evaluate the possible environment that each participant needs to deal with. In this way, the correlative proof needed to define the hypothesis of the research shall be given proper attention to. The second set of the survey questions shall be dependent upon the examination of whether or not a person really does have PTSD or is a candidate for developing one. With the utilization of more implicative and psychologically directive questions, this survey approach shall identify and try to measure the capacity of a person to handle stress and respond to it positively.
The observation approach shall be a noted written observation that shall be handled by the researcher two times in line with the behavior of the participants in their actual work-areas or workspaces. Specifically, this observation would be mentioned to the participants, but they are not to be given any idea when it will be held hence avoiding the possibility of not being able to get an accurate record on the matter due to the personal perception and behavioral changes the participants might manifest given if they know the exact schedule of the observation.
Sample Population
The sample population shall involve at least 25 to 30 participants ranging from ages 25 to 35 who are working in a factory together. Some of them are expected to be immigrants and some others are expected to be natives of the country. Relatively, these factors are expected to make a specific impact on the results of the study. The diversity of the participants’ population would greatly help in making an implicative definition of whether or not their backgrounds and personal frustrations actually impact the possibility by which they could develop PTSD in themselves. The working condition of the participants is pressurized as they are set to meet deadlines all the time. Given that not all of them are speaking in English fluently, the stress aggravates thus allowing the researcher a chance to measure all these different elements as to how they impact the behavior, attitude and performance of the participants especially during the actual observation period.
Since the participants are already in a rather responsible age, it is expected that they have their personal frustrations, struggles and perhaps particular points of improvement they are working on to please their boss or themselves. Notably, these elements are expected to make an impact on the thinking, perception and work process of each individual; this is what is going to be monitored during the research. Understanding how much pressure and repetitive stress a person needs to undergo to be considered at the brink of developing PTSD is what the research herein hopes to discover through this process.
Data Gathering
The results of the survey procedure shall be treated in cross reference to the observation results. Since the survey procedure are more individual while the observation procedure is more general, the cross sectioning of the results would be based on how much of the individual responses are actually manifested in actual act and performance of the participants in their work areas. The observation process is to take simply 45 minutes during the peak hour of the workers’ [participants] point of job. Notably, this would allow the researcher see the situation and reaction of the participants under core pressure of meeting the deadline and meeting the quota of production which is specifically to create a massive impact on how occupational PTSD could develop in an individual or even in a group of individuals.
Data Analysis
To analyze the data, the researchers are to use the inductive procedure which involves the direct interpretation of the data based on their actual impact on the hypothesis as they respond to the question at hand. The utilization of mathematical covariance is to be at a minimal since it is insisted that the approach of this research shall be qualitative. Hence, each response shall be considered an important representation of fact and collecting the same responses together and measuring their impact on the topic discussed shall create a final depiction of whether or not there are other elements or factors that contribute to one’s development of PTSD from work-related pressures, stress, tensions as well as frustrations.
Data Presentation
Diagrams, graphs and charts shall be utilized to present the data in this study. These visual presentations shall better define the distinctive condition by which the participants tend to handle themselves in the middle of stressful events at work. Relatively, it is expected that this presentation shall yield a clarified indication of what the study is based upon and what particular assumptions regarding PTSD does it actually want to represent in line with the capacity of workers to handle pressure effectively.
Scope and Limitations of Methodology
Since the study is to be based on a qualitative approach, it is expected that the limitations of this research shall be weakened by the non-utilization of mathematical functions to define the logical representation of each response from the participants. Considerably, although not seen to have a great impact on the interpretation of the results, it could be analyzed that logical presentations of the matter would have a great definition of the results on a mathematical ground.
Expectations
It is expected that at the end of this research that the factors defining the possibility of the existence of PTSD among pressured employees would be better clarified and be given specific attention for recovery and therapy that needs to be applied to address the said issue. Considerably, even though there shall be no mathematical representation of the results of the procedures undertaken, it is expected that the explanations would suffice the capability by which the study would define the occurrence of PTSD with the involvement of other factors in the situation. With these conditional situations being given attention to it is expected that somehow this study will have a great impact on how the current psychological treatments that are dedicated towards the developmental therapy for PTSD sufferers could be well developed based on the discoveries made through the procedures applied for this particular research.
