Models of Decision Making, Essay Example

Decision making in an organization is always a crucial stage that involves the concerns of most members of the team. However, to note, it could be analyzed that there are two particular forms of decision making that are used by business organizations. One is that of the authoritative approach and the other is the collaborative aspect. Among the team members, one’s organizations uses the authoritative process and another uses the collaborative approach. Two of the team members are on the other hand involved in the collective use of both approaches to decision making.

From their reactions to the application of both approaches to decision making, authoritative process is assumed to be more centralized which involves only the assumptions of the administrators and their understanding of the situation. They may at times ask for the feedback of the employees but barely ask the presence of the lower level of command when the decisions are already to be carried. Apart from this, the collaborative approach calls for the attention and involvement of all the different members of the community. Responding to organizational problems through either of these approaches specifically indicate a more redefined understanding of how to deal with issues that concern the entire business operation.

Based on the indicative presentations and reflections of the team members, the strength of the authoritative approach is that the decision making is more centralized, more controlled by the administration. However, at the time of application, once the decision that has been made is not fully accepted by everyone else, the reaction becomes viral that at some point could cause organizational division. On the other end, it has been realized that while collaborative decision making solves the issues of authoritative decision making in a way that it does involve the understanding of all the sides of the organization’s members; it also presents an essence of differential bearing especially when it comes to the length of time spent in making decisions.

This is the reason why it is deemed through observation of application that the balanced utilization of both decision making procedures would benefit organizations better as it would give ample time to the administration to hear out what the members of the organization would say and deliberate them in a closed room where the board members and employee representatives are enjoined together. Although some conflicts may arise, carrying out a decision that supports the value of the majority would best benefit the function of any particular business institution.
