Modern Chinese Prose: Satire and Humour, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 435

Essay

The capacity of a person to make others laugh is a natural gift; based from the literary presentations examined for this particular task, it could be realized that it is an innate human talent to make others laugh and be specifically energized when they themselves laugh. This is perhaps the reason why the phrase ‘laughter is the best medicine’ remains true even among Asians. Based form the readings assigned, humour is a natural part of living even for the traditional population of the Asian regions.

According to Qian Zhongshu’s writing ‘On Laughter’, every human individual has a sixth sense of which is the sense of humor. He points this out through citing Aristotle, a relatively serious person, to have used humor as a particular basis of presentation of ideas and philosophies. This however is not evidently obvious among the writings of the said philosopher. Zhongshu points out that Aristotle made it a point that even though he did use humor, his readers should be able to understand the overall value of his written ideas first before they would be able to get the idea behind the humor he used.

Yu Kwang-chung on the other end mentions about humor as something that need not be verbal in form. Considerably, it could be understood that among friends, being able to understand each other is enough for them to create something, establish a sense of commonality that would allow them to welcome humor into wordless conversations. He mentions too how humor is seemingly the ways by which humans tend to deal with the different pressures of life with the aim of seemingly easing themselves out from the stress that life’s pressures bring about. Lin Yutang supports this idea as she points out how humor is actually a state of mind that allows humans to become more effective in facing the different difficulties of life.

Considerably, Lu Xun entails to point out that the same is true when it comes to interpreting the photos that were collected through time and how most of the most humorous ones become the basis of humorous background that is accepted by the communities as the real eyes to the truth behind their living culture. It could be realized that through all these collection of reading materials, it has been pointed out how much humor is a basic part of human living and how it actually stands as a specific factor that brings about life to the living process of humans in particular communities, especially in Asia.
