I like the idea behind several intervention techniques that it is important to communicate with the patient and understand the reasons behind their problems and feelings. When we understand the root cause, it is easier to devise a solution. This is why task-centered approach confuses me because I find it difficult to understand how problems can be solved without focusing on the causes and even if they are solved, there may be high probability of reoccurrence. As far as cognitive behavioral theory is concerned, I believe it has applications even in others fields such as business and management.

As far as Mary is concerned, she will benefit from community organizing and community development programs. In Mary’s case, she doesn’t have a reliable support system and her thoughts are also due to pessimism regarding the future. She is developing a feeling of helplessness and is also concerned about the negative impact of the environment on her children. Community organizing programs will provide her with a support system and make her realize that she is not alone. Similarly, the involvement of other community members will also give her hope that there are more resources to deal with the problems. At this time, Mary is trying to solve everything by herself and feel that the problem is too big for her to handle alone which is why she has pessimistic view of the future.
