Moral Instinct, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 280

Essay

An innocent man who was critically wounded in the crossfire of armed cat burglars has been given a second chance at life by the hospital who managed to stop his bleeding and brush with death, the innocent man’s car was also badly damaged during the burglary which will cost the man several thousand dollars to fix. The man’s first inkling is getting revenge on the men who did this to him and his car, the moral illusion of his act of revenge is that he feels violated so he’s going to violate the burglars.

The man feels slighted because of the burglar’s violence, the man comes up with a plan to get his revenge and it does involve casualty or two but it’s a risk the man’s willing to take even at the expense of his moral realism which illustrates that his judgement or lack thereof is capable of doing more damage than he knows which doesn’t really matter to him.

The drive behind the man’s revenge is that he was an innocent bystander that could’ve died because of another human beings recklessness, so the man catches up to the burglars and exact his revenge. The man’s moral instinct tells him that going after the two men is wrong because that’s why there are police, but vigilantism trumps his moral instinct and he takes justice into his own hands.

The man has a point about taking matters into his own hands because sometimes it is the only way that people will learn what line not to cross, senseless unethical violence disrupts people’s lives; there is no room for morality when someone takes something from you.
