Introduction
Motivation in the workplace requires the ability to identify the factors that drive employees to perform at a specific level. It is expected that recognition, compensation, authority, independence, and the physical environment are key factors in this process because they influence how employees react to consistency as well as change. This is often reflected in their capacity to improve performance if they are motivated by their workplace and the opportunities that are available to them. It is important to identify key motivating factors in an effort to achieve successful results. In conducting an interview regarding motivation, it is necessary to determine how motivation plays a role in supporting the growth and development of employees in many different ways.
Body
Upon review of the interview that was conducted, the interviewee expressed her satisfaction with a number of workplace factors, including her supervisor and the level of supervision that she receives. In addition, she believes that her workplace environment is largely conducive to unique learning experiences, both with patients and amongst employees. For the most part, the interviewee stated that she is able to contribute effectively and provide feedback as necessary to improve unit results. She also noted that there are significant benefits to the discovery of new ideas and approaches to common problems in the workplace and she enjoys providing input as needed in this area. The interviewee also considered her experiences with management in the context of promotional opportunities and noted that with a few additional years of experience, she will be eligible for a promotion as an assistant nurse manager. However, the interviewee is working on her Masters degree; therefore, her promotional capabilities will increase once she becomes a nurse practitioner.
The interviewee also noted that she is motivated in her job on a regular basis because she earns a good living and stated that her salary is sufficient for the type of work that she performs. Therefore, she strives to be the best that she can be in her job day in and day out so that the care of her patients is not compromised. She believes that the general working conditions within her nursing unit are positive and that she has made many friends on different shifts within the unit framework. She believes that these friendships provide a positive work experience for the team and support the continuous development of new opportunities for growth and to acquire new experiences. Finally, she demonstrated through her responses that she is generally motivated because she genuinely wants to help her patients improve their health. Since she is from a diverse background herself, she strives to be successful in all of her patient interactions, but is particularly interested in those patients that share similar backgrounds and diverse experiences. These patients are worth the motivation, effort, and commitment to the nursing profession from her perspective.
In response to the interview, there were a number of points made by the interviewee that matched the predictions that were made. It was important to the interviewee to demonstrate her overall contentment with her current career path and the nursing unit for which she is employed. This also demonstrates her contentment with the management team and her ability to provide input regarding problems that are significant to the nursing unit as a whole. The interview was successful because it reflected the capacity of the interviewee to clearly express herself and her ideas regarding her nursing unit and the experiences that she has had since she began working there. This is an important reminder of the capacity of motivation to play a critical role in shaping nursing practice and how nurses manage their roles and responsibilities in the workplace setting on a daily basis. Therefore, the results of the interview were aligned with the profile that was offered.
The interview also demonstrated the commitment of the nurse to her practice and to learning as much as possible with the experiences that she encounters. For the nurse, these experiences are critical learning tools in shaping her knowledge and level of competency within the field, as well as her ability to be successful as she moves forward in her nursing career. This is important and relevant because it keeps her motivated and focused on her role and her responsibilities to her patients. Perhaps most importantly, she is proud of her career choice and path and strives to continue her efforts to achieve success in the workplace setting for the foreseeable future.
The interviewee also noted that her motivation is driven by attitude of caring and her ability to demonstrate competence at all times (Rhodes et.al, 2011). It is believed that these efforts have considerable influence on the ability of nurses to exercise knowledge and experience in a variety of settings that are influential in promoting successful nursing practice and high quality patient care. These factors are key motivators in supporting the development of new strategies to improve patient care and related outcomes. Therefore, it is important to identify how motivation is driven by these perspectives and by other factors that contribute to motivating employees in this manner. In some ways, these areas are somewhat predictable and demonstrate bias because they limit the ability of the nurse to view her work objectively and independently of the experiences that she has had.
Conclusion
Nurses face critical challenges in their efforts to stay motivated under challenging working conditions and issues related to the provision of patient care. Therefore, it is important to identify the specific factors that enable nurses to be successful in this practice and to identify the key factors that motivate nurses to continue in this difficult profession. It is important for nurses to stay motivated and to continue to find new directives to support their ambitions in order to effectively promote successful results in patient care and treatment.
