Research Paper

The nursing profession is known for individuals that are both compassionate and skilled. Through the learning process there is not only a great deal of information that has been learned, but also an improved method or process of learning. According to Ramirez, there is a great deal of emphasis placed on the learning of content while in nursing school, however the way that nursing students are learning is also important. Nursing is one of those fields that require constant learning. By engaging in the learning process and preparing my mind to take in new information and processing accordingly, it will allow me to carry that ability into the workplace. Nursing is a field that is ever changing. There is a great deal of medical technology, equipment, medication and procedures that a nurse must stay well versed in. Without the ability to learn new information or independently seek out the newest information, the nursing profession and patient suffer.

According to Trossman, nurses can change their own career path or direction by staying abreast of the newest information and resources (8). While in nursing school there are numerous opportunities to learn, through the various resources and experiences of others. Having this opportunity has actually caused me to enjoy learning new information and seeking education through various opportunities. It has shown me a link between learning new information and improved patient care. In other words, the educational process has caused me to change the way that I feel about education and learning in general. Before it was a chore to complete a paper or spend time in lab, but now I enjoy the process. I have realized that seeking new information will make me a better nurse, who is knowledgeable and proficient in my respective medical area.
