Lauren’s first encounter with performing arts was ballet which she took in first grade and continued to perform until high school until she realized she didn’t enjoy ballet as much as performing before the audience. Lucie Ball’s magnificent acting in I Love Lucy also captivated Lauren and eventually convinced her that her future lies in acting. She started doing theater in sixth grade but it didn’t take long for her to realize she could pursue either ballet or acting but not both. Lauren actively participated in community musical theater in high school and opted for a boarding school that exclusively focused on Drama during her last two years of high school.

Lauren is fortunate to have parents who have always supported her because she realizes acting is a risky career choice in terms of financial independence.  Acting fascinates her because she has always enjoyed human interaction more than any other activity. She always looks forward to meeting and engaging in meaningful conversation with people from diverse background. Sometimes she becomes so absorbed in the characters she portrays that she tends to forget she is an actor and not the character herself. Not surprisingly, she wants to take psychology as her second major because psychology may help her better understand the characters she plays. She is not just interested in playing characters but also understanding how her characters think and why they behave the way they do.

Lauren probably enjoys acting because it gives her an opportunity to put herself in others shoes. Her interest in meeting other people as well as psychology indicates her fascination with human behavior. Acting complements her fascination with people because it allows her to immerse herself in other characters and view things from different perspectives. She probably believes that natural acting only results when we understand the factors that inspire certain human behaviors.

Her decision to pursue acting despite it being a risky career choice in terms of financial reliability proves she is strong-willed and willing to take risks to pursue her interests. Her decision also reflects her huge self-confidence. Her interview reflects her sincerity to her chosen career path and everything from attending boarding school to planning a second major in psychology has been an attempt to continuously hone her acting skills.

Lauren’s admiration for acting may mean she considers acting as one of the most effective forms of communication. Acting has the power to emotionally appeal to people and become less judgmental of the characters. It may be her way of contributing towards more tolerant society where people are not judged but understood by others. The society is often quick to judge the actions without attempting to understand the factors that might have contributed towards those particular actions. She tries to understand her characters’ psychology so that she can educate her audience why people behave the way they behave and how exterior can be quite deceiving.
