Necessary Component of the BSN, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 288

Essay

Nursing research is a necessary component of the BSN because research skills allow nurses in training to receive a greater understanding of the nursing field. Since our medical knowledge is constantly expanding, it is valuable for students to comprehend why this is the case in addition to how their own practices can enhance this expansion. In their careers, nurses could be asked by physicians to work closely with patients that are enrolled in clinical studies and it is therefore helpful for nurses to have already had this kind of exposure before entering the workforce. In addition, this research experience will make the nurse in training more valuable as a future employee.

Nursing research appears to be intimidating because it requires a lot of effort and precision. Since nursing projects often involve a collaboration between nurses and approval from patients, the task appears to be daunting. However, it is important for nurses to become familiar with research protocols so that these procedures begin to feel more routine. Furthermore, nurses should become excited that the research they are participating in has the opportunity to further the field, helping a great number of patients along the way.

While the field of nursing has evolved significantly since its inception, there is a continuous need to adapt practices and facilitate change to ensure that all patients are getting the best possible care. The nurse who performs research is an integral component to this quality improvement process, because he or she is able to determine where gaps of knowledge stand in the literature and use an understanding of research to fill in these gaps. All nurses should receive research training because the more individuals that are involved in this effort, the faster improvements will be seen.
