Need for System Integration, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Research Paper

System integration involves splitting a particular product in to a number of partial products and consequent integration individually (Head, 2005). In system integration, individual tested components are combined to form an integrated whole component. The final product is either a subsystem which can further be combined to form a product. System integration is associated with worthwhile advantages as compared to the “big bang” approach (Head, 2005). The partial products may be integrated in vertical increments to produce subsystems. They may also be integrated as cross subsystems thus producing fractional end-to-end products. Both system integration approaches yield some results that are nearer the anticipated product. The benefits enjoyed by clients is early access to a working product and the developers have an opportunity of verifying its performance as well as additional quality attributes in the working scenario instead of entirely depending on simulations or models (Turban et al. 2008).

Unrelenting integration is also associated with a lower level o9f integration risk since the developers are able to identify potential problems that are associated with integration. This is specifically critical when the problems are associated with high degree of complexity at the early stages of iterations in system integration. The basis of system integration is component interfaces that work on the assumption that, programmers in independent components are in a position to produce another component in a safe manner (Turban et al. 2008). The most important consideration in this regard entails the behavior of the component, the resources used during integration process and its functionality whenever an error arises among other errors that require documentation as important ingredients of the interface of the component.
